Daly Hospital Foundation Annual Report to the Community

I will begin by saying how pleased I am to have been invited to join the Daly Hospital Foundation as its Director. I assumed the position in mid-December and since then, have been steeped in learning the intricacies, complexities and financial aspects of operating Marcus Daly Memorial Hospital. Even though my wife Susan and I have resided in Hamilton since 1989, I must admit that prior to joining the Foundation and being associated with the Hospital, I did not give the Hospital much thought and somewhat took it for granted, just knowing that it was close to my home if I needed it. However, after having been involved, walking the halls and meeting the staff and physicians for the past several months, I realize what an asset and how important Marcus Daly Memorial Hospital is to our community in so many ways. While I have not yet met all of the approximately 485 employees and physicians that are available “24/7”, those I have met and with whom I have dealings on a daily basis, have impressed me with their competence, dedication, compassion and commitment to the Marcus Daly Memorial Hospital mission of excellence in providing quality, accessible and personalized healthcare.

In 2007 the focus of the Foundation, the fund raising arm of Marcus Daly Memorial Hospital was on restructuring the Foundation and the Foundation Board of Directors to be better equipped to fulfill its Mission of promoting a culture of philanthropy and engaging the community to financially support Marcus Daly Memorial Hospital.

Notably, the Foundation welcomed three community leaders, Dick Ackerman, Paul Kink and Charles Shonkwiler to the Foundation Board. They bring several years of banking, financial, investment and business acumen to the Board. Dick, an attorney specializing in tax law, and his wife Barbara reside in Darby and since coming to the Valley in 1998, have been involved in a number of community service projects. Paul and his wife Diane Thomas-Rupert have been active members of our community for 23 years. Paul and Diane are financial advisors associated with Raymond James in Hamilton. Chuck and his wife Niki are second generation Valley residents and over the years have also been involved with and supported numerous community projects and events. Chuck is President of Ravalli County Bank in Hamilton. These gentlemen, together with their colleagues, Marilyn Warren, Elizabeth Kehmeier, Jay Milligan and Dr. Charles Petty, provide a wealth of knowledge, experience, dedication, vision and enthusiasm to guide the Foundation in furtherance of its Mission.

Leadership at Marcus Daly Memorial Hospital is visible and tangible. The Ravalli County community through its citizens, business and friends and the Marcus Daly Memorial Hospital community, including its employees, physicians, volunteers, administrators and trustees have given their time, talents and resources to help Marcus Daly Memorial Hospital achieve the successes and momentum we all benefit from today. Continuing that momentum and preparing for the future requires the generation of significant additional financial resources. In the face of dramatic increases in costs for staff, supplies and equipment and declining reimbursement, never before has there been a greater need for community support and involvement to enable the Hospital to continue to provide the measure of healthcare excellence the community expects and deserves. The Foundation is committed to providing those resources through demonstrating the need for and inspiring health philanthropy.

It is the privilege of the Daly Hospital Foundation to serve Marcus Daly Memorial Hospital and our community. We are indeed fortunate to have this quality institution in our community and so close to our homes. We are optimistic and excited about the future of Marcus Daly Memorial Hospital and look forward to continued support from all segments of our community to enable Marcus Daly Memorial Hospital to achieve its Mission of excellence in providing the highest quality, accessible and personalized healthcare possible.

Please call if you have questions. I would be happy to arrange for a tour so you can witness for yourself the spirit of excellence that fills our halls.

Sincerely,

Ron Kullick, Director
Daly Hospital Foundation, Inc.
