Is There Any Other Notable Training We Should Know About?

My background is in critical care and trauma. The last three years have been in Family practice that included women's health, hormone replacement, aesthetics and wellness.

Why Did You Go Into Medicine? Why Did You Choose Your Particular Field?

I started my career in emergency medicine because I like the urgency and focus it demands. I like having a purpose and feeling like I made a difference. I chose family practice as a nurse practitioner because it is a well rounded field, it allows me to do many things and I want to help people lead healthy lives.

What Are Some of Your Clinical Interests?

Neuroscience. I am fascinated by how the brain works and how we process information and why we do the things we do. I am also interested in general wellness - diet, exercise, sleep and stress management.

What Do You Love About Practicing Medicine?

I like the variety and the scope. I like learning new things all the time. I like making a difference. I like watching people transform their lives.

What Is Your Philosophy of Care?

I want to help my patients live their best lives, whatever that means for them. Compassionate, goal oriented, relationship with my patients.

"I want to help my patients live their best lives, whatever that means for them."

What Do You Most Want People to Know About the Way You Practice Medicine?

Medicine should be a team sport. It should be as collaborative as possible. I want there to be a relationship with my patients that includes trust and compassion and respect.

What Do You Wish You Could Tell Every Patient (and They Would Actually Do) and Why?

Stop eating sugar. Focus on a lower carb intake, learn about healthy eating. Exercise everyday. Get outside and let the sun touch your face. Make social connections. I think this is critical to curbing cardiovascular disease, obesity and depression.

What Have Your Patients Taught You?

To listen, to be patient, to give them space to make a healthy decision.

Who Is Someone You Admire, and Why?

I admire people that have survived trauma and are warm and friendly. I admire people that can laugh and be upbeat when they don't feel well. I admire people that are generous and thoughtful and brave despite their fears. I admire people that can change their mind about a conviction when they learn they were wrong. I admire people that are genuine.

Where Did You Grow Up?

I grew up in Gilroy, California, the Garlic Capital of the World!

What Brought You to the Bitterroot Valley?

I moved to Missoula after I graduated to start my career in family practice and discovered Hamilton when I found a friend to bike with. That friend became my partner and we enjoy all of the outdoors together - biking, hiking, kayaking, skiing, running. Hamilton is an amazing little place with people from all over the world and great community involvement.

"I have worked in a few small communities and critical access hospitals and have never seen anything like what we have in Hamilton. It is amazing."

What Do You Enjoy About Living and Working in a Small Community Like Ours?

I like bumping into people I know when I am out and about. I love the community involvement in Hamilton. I love that organizations like Emma's house and the hospital are well supported. I have worked in a few small communities and critical access hospitals and have never seen anything like what we have in Hamilton. It is amazing.

Living in Such a Close-Knit Community, How Do You Create a Successful Work–Life Balance?

Work is work and home is home. I am always happy to answer medical questions for friends and acquaintances but I remind them to see their provider. I try to practice what I preach - I eat well and exercise, I take time to participate in social activities and get together with friends because it is important for mental health.

What Are Some of Your Non-Professional Interests And Favorite Hobbies?

I love to hike, camp, bike, ski, kayak! I travel when I can. I read! I sign up for fun runs and triathlons to give myself goals. I am training my puppy!

Is There Anything About You That Might Surprise People?

I have mad camping skills. I can build a fire. I backpack well. I completed a half Ironman Triathlon.

What Would Be Your Personal Motto?

Don't quit. You're almost there.

Do You Have Pets?

Yes! I have a new Border Collie/Australian Shepherd puppy. An adult Golden Retriever and a Siamese cat. And a mean fish.
