Inpatient Care
Patient experience is important at Marcus Daly Memorial Hospital. Our team
works closely with patients and their loved ones to ensure all of their
needs are taken care of and they are made as comfortable as possible.
We have 25 acute care beds which are frequently visited by our team of
Registered nurses, hospitalists, social workers, nutritionists, therapists,
and case managers. This team works collaboratively to create a caring
and compassionate environment while helping patients optimize their recovery
and prepare for discharge.
Inpatient care refers to services provided for patients that require an
overnight stay at the hospital for acute care. Common inpatients include:
- Patients anticipating or recovering from surgery
- Patients admitted to the ICU
- Patients undergoing rehabilitation
- Patients who have suffered serious injuries and are at risk of further
injury outside the hospital
Your Hospitalist Care Team
At Marcus Daly Memorial Hospital, we are committed to delivering great
care to our patients. For this reason each patient is cared for by a team
of experienced medical professionals. Each patient’s care team includes
a Hospitalist and many other medical experts to make sure the patient
and family needs are met.
Hospitalists are physicians who specialize in complex medical care. Hospitalists
care for patients whom are admitted into the Clinical Decision Unit or
the hospital. “We are responsible for patients from admitting to
discharge and coordinate the care provided between the patient, their
primary care provider and supporting departments. We make sure that patients
get their scheduled labs, therapy and any other needed services, read
the results and prescribe a care plan that is timely. This type of efficient
care has proven to result in better outcomes, shorter hospital lengths
of stay and a safe transition back into the community,” said Dr.
Jennifer Feighner, Hospitalist Director.
The Hospitalist on duty is 100% dedicated to inpatient care. They are responsible
for managing and coordinating your care, as well as keeping you and your
family informed. This ensures that you receive personalized, timely, and
quality care during your hospital stay. When you are discharged from the
hospital, the Hospitalist will contact your doctor and provide your medical
report. At that time, your doctor will assume responsibility for your
care. Thank you for choosing Marcus Daly Memorial Hospital for your care.
Swing Bed Services
Sometimes a patient finishes their acute care, but still requires additional
monitoring and therapies before they can safely return home. Swing Bed
Services are a transitional stage of care where patients stay at the hospital
while they receive short-term rehabilitation or skilled nursing care.
This allows patients to continue their recovery in a safe, monitored environment
where they can quickly be treated in case a complication occurs. Swing
Bed Services save patients from the expense of acute care without having
to sacrifice dedicated medical attention while they work towards recovery.
Intensive Care Unit (ICU)
The ICU is for patients who have a need for a higher acuity of care. The
Marcus Daly ICU includes 5 patient rooms where Registered Nurses are on
staff 24/7 to address any urgent medical concerns. Our ICU Nurses have
been specially trained for emergency situations such as heart failure,
diabetic emergencies, strokes, traumatic injuries, and heart attacks.
ICU patients require specialized care to treat life-threatening conditions.
Visiting hours in this area are limited so patients can receive the rest
they need, but our staff is always available to answer questions for loved ones.
Social Services
While staying at Marcus Daly Memorial Hospital, a case manager will be
assigned to you. They will be responsible for planning your discharge
and connecting you with any hospital services you may need, including
financial assistance, support groups, and social counselling, as well
as any outside resources that can aid in your recovery. Case managers
can also help you establish Advance Directives, which provide your medical
providers with instructions on how to handle your care in the event you
become incapacitated.
