Marcus Daly Memorial Hospital staff thanks the community as National Hospital
Week begins, May 10 – 17, and a local nurse is honored for National
Nurses Day, May 6.
Marcus Daly Memorial Hospital’s Chief Nursing Officer Kathy Padilla
shared the thoughts for all MDMH employees that the community is the hero
and should be celebrated.
“Our community is heroic, it has sacrificed over these last weeks
and months,” Padilla said. “They have stayed at home, they
have practiced self-isolation, they have given up travel, they have given
up seeing their friends and family, they have had one point-person go
to the store for them. They have done so many things that have changed
their lives drastically to keep themselves and the community safe, to
me that’s heroic.”
Padilla attributes those actions with flattening the curve, giving the
hospital time to prepare for a surge of COVID-19 patients while still
caring for the community’s other needs.
“You can call us health care heroes but what we are doing is what
we do every day,” she said. “It is our career, we love it,
have a passion for it and also sacrifice things for our family, [like
time with loved ones,] but the community are our heroes.”
